Parenting can be both rewarding and challenging.
The Library District has resources to give you fresh perspectives, practical tips, and peace of mind.
Early Literacy Programs – Toddler Time, Toot & Scoot, and Baby Rhyme and Play Time are just a few of the high-quality programs the Library District offers!

Preschooler Learning Center – The PLC offers early literacy learning, exploratory play and social emotional development in a classroom-like setting.

Children’s Program Calendar – Concerts, story-times, shows, and activities are planned throughout the year – perfect for families to enjoy!
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – Children (from birth up to their fifth birthday) receive a free book mailed monthly to their home. Must reside in the City or Town of Poughkeepsie.
The Parenting Collection – Located in the Children’s Room at Adriance Memorial Library, it includes books and DVDs about child-rearing, pregnancy, nursing, and parenting children with special needs.
Join our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge! Read 1,000 books together, and help your child get ready for kindergarten.
Books in Spanish! – The library has many bilingual and Spanish books.

Borrow a Nature Exploration Backpack! Backpacks are stocked with books, a selection of materials designed to encourage children and their families to explore the natural world.
Museum Passes! Passes to nearby museums that can be checked out with your library card that offer free or reduced admission.

Homework/Reading Helpers – During the school year, Teen Volunteers can help your child in grades K – 6 with homework or reading. Please call the Library for schedule and availability. 845-485-3445 x 3320
Early Literacy Backpacks– Specially curated backpacks containing 5 – 6 books, an early literacy toy, and an early literacy tip! Available to borrow in three age levels: infant, toddler, and preschool.
