Choosing a college is an important decision. The Poughkeepsie Public Library District has materials to help you select the right school for you. Using this guide will help you locate the resources you need to help you make your best choice. Although the collections at the Central Reference Library and Poughkeepsie Public Library District are highlighted here, you can expand searches in the online catalog to include your local Library and/or other Mid-Hudson Library locations.

Print copies of catalogs for colleges in Dutchess County are available for viewing at the Adriance Memorial Library's Reference Desk. To obtain your own copy of a catalog, or to view one online, visit the school's Homepage. You may also view a directory of U. S. Universities by State. There is usually a link to both the catalog and schedule of classes available at each institution.

Remember that the online catalog contains the holdings of 70 Mid-Hudson Libraries. If what you want is not owned locally, click the green "Request-a-Title" button in the item's record and follow the instructions on the screen. Materials will be sent to whichever library you request.

Note: a book is a reference book, and must be used at the owning library if it says "In Library Use" or "Non-Loan" in the status column and the call number is preceded with an "R".

Browse the Collection

Most materials on higher education are located in the Dewey Decimal number range beginning with 378. You can browse public and community college collections using this number.
