The Teen Room is a space for teens ages 12-18 to study, read, use computers and “rock out” with some of the latest video games on gaming days. Our Teen collection is housed here and covers some of the very best in Teen Fiction, Manga, Graphic Novels, Teen Magazines, AudioBooks on CD, Playaways, DVD and Video Games. We offer a diverse range of programming for teens, covering everything from cooking prep to college prep, with a host of other interesting options in between. College prep tools are also available through the Testing & Education Reference Center, which you can access with your MHLS library card!

Teen Media Lab
The Poughkeepsie Public Library District has a fully loaded Teen Media Lab that engages youth with media technology and gives teens the opportunity to explore their interests and improve their tech skills. Our Teen Room is located in the Adriance Memorial Library where our youth (12-18 years old) play video games, find books, DVDs, do homework and use computers as well as use the Teen Media Lab computers and equipment during Open Lab Sessions. The library district has partnered with Spark Media Project (formerly Children’s Media Project) and IBM to mentor teens during technology workshops. Teens from areas outside of the town and city of Poughkeepsie including Hyde Park and Wappingers Falls come to explore and experiment in our Teen Media Lab. As the main library in the Mid-Hudson Library System, we serve as an example to other libraries of the possibilities for innovative teen programming.
Teen Media Lab Hardware & Equipment:
Our Teen Media Lab contains six mac computers loaded with Adobe Creative Suite software – Production Pro and Design & Web. We have Photoshop, Illustration, InDesign, Premiere Pro (film editing) and After Effects to name a few Adobe programs. We also have equipment such as camcorders, a green screen and lighting kit, a hand-held Zoom audio recorder, two digital art tablets, iPads, digital cameras and head phones that can be used by teens during our Open Lab Sessions. Our digital music equipment includes a Pyle Electronic Percussion Drum and an Akai Mini Keyboard. Our goal is to expose teens to a variety of technical opportunities that spark their interests and also become knowledge can be applied as a job skill.
